News Topical, Digital Desk : Eyeing the rapidly growing potential of the domestic aviation market, the Adani Group is planning to enter engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and conversion of passenger aircraft to freighter aircraft (passenger-to-freighter or P2F). In addition to operating airports, the Adani Group already has a presence in the MRO and pilot training businesses. Jeet Adani, director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), said the group has split its aviation business into two segments: airport infrastructure and aviation services. This will include both defense and civilian applications.

He said work is underway to create a larger MRO unit by bringing together MRO companies like Air Works and Indamar Technics. Describing MRO as a rapidly growing sector, Jeet Adani said the group will now develop capabilities in landing gear, painting, P2F conversions, and, in the future, engine MRO.

Companies are expected to add approximately 1,700 new aircraft in the coming years. This will require an additional 30,000 pilots. The group estimates that the domestic aviation market could grow at a rate of 10-15 percent. According to Jeet Adani, India currently has 15 simulators for pilot training, while the country has the capacity to install 40 to 50.
