News Topical, Digital Desk : Police in Pakistan's Punjab province demolished a 70-year-old mosque belonging to the minority Ahmadiyya community.

Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistan (JAP) said, "Under pressure from religious extremists, the police not only demolished the mihrab of the 70-year-old mosque but also desecrated two Ahmadiyya graves by breaking their stones." The incident took place in Gujranwala district on Tuesday.

JAP protested

JAP spokesman Amir Mahmood strongly condemned the action. He said it is the duty of the police to protect the life, property and religious places of all citizens, regardless of their faith.

 

The spokesperson called upon senior police officials to take cognizance of the incident and ensure that those responsible for damaging the mosque and desecrating Ahmadiyya graves were held accountable under the law.

Meanwhile, a police official said the Ahmadiyya community has been asked to demolish the mosque's prayer hall and tombs as Islamic verses were engraved on them.
