News Topical, Digital Desk : A Chinese mountaineer lost his life due to carelessness. While climbing Mount Nama, he tried to take photographs near the summit. He untied his safety rope and, in the process, slipped and fell on the snow, resulting in his death.
A video of the incident is viral on social media. The 31-year-old climber is identified as Hong. He was part of a group climbing the 5,588-meter-high mountain. Fellow climbers were stunned to see him slipping through the ice, but no one could do anything.
Fell while trying to balance
The video shows Hong standing on a snow-covered slope near the summit. He removed his safety rope and stood up again. He tried to regain his balance, but lost his footing. In the next moment, he slid down the mountain and disappeared from view.
An investigation has been ordered after the incident came to light. Authorities say Hongye and his group failed to disclose information about their climb or obtain the necessary permits. Mount Nama is a high mountain located in the eastern Tibetan Plateau in China's Sichuan Province.
Mountaineers need a permit to trek. They must prepare for this by spending time at lower altitudes to acclimatize to the altitude. They must prepare for sudden blizzards and freezing cold. High-altitude equipment such as crampons, ice axes, ropes, and helmets are required.
