News Topical, Digital Desk : Tisca Chopra, who has acted and directed three short films, has directed her first feature film, "Saali Mohabbat." Starring Radhika Apte and Divyendu Sharma, the film will premiere on ZEE5 on December 12th. Recently, Tisca Chopra shared several important details about the film.
Question: You direct, write, and act. You're also a mother. How do you balance your work?
Answer: This is the era of multitasking, so people think you should do four things at once. No. You can only do one thing at a time. Do one thing at a time. Give it your best, then move on to another. I think you should focus on what's at hand.
Question: Where did "Saali Mohabbat" originate? The film discusses external beauty...
Answer: When I was about 11-12 years old, I would observe many people around me. Every man, woman, or child sitting on a bus or passing in traffic has a story on their face. Everyone carries a world within them. I felt very sad that I would never get to know them. From there, many years ago, the idea began: there's so much going on in an ordinary person's life that we never see. We always judge a person by their appearance, especially today, because everything is filtered. There's makeup on their faces, flashy clothes. So who knows, the lives of people who aren't like that might be more interesting than these glittering people. That's the thought that led me to write this film.
Question: How long did it take to write the film?
Answer: I wrote the story in 2019, then the lockdown happened. I narrated the story to Manish (producer Manish Malhotra) in 2022. We shot the film in 2023. We're releasing it now.
Question: The film discusses internet media. Now, in the industry, there's talk of getting work based on followers...
Answer: Those who offer such work lack confidence in their storytelling and lack the courage to say something different. Having directed, I can say that it's incredibly demanding and backbreaking. Furthermore, the changes that have occurred in the industry due to internet media have also occurred in the world.
Q: Why did you say you don't want to be referred to as a female director?
A: I don't think or work in terms of my gender. I'm a normal person. I don't judge my talent or lack thereof by gender. Now is the time when your work speaks for itself.
Question: What was the most beautiful memory of this year?
Answer: This year, I went to the Masai Mara National Reserve (a world-renowned wildlife conservation area in southwest Kenya) with my husband and daughter. We had been planning to go there for many years. Our daughter loves lions. The experience there was amazing. There are no electric poles or even a single building there. Only land, sky, trees, plants, and animals. As you walk, a giraffe appears. I cannot describe that experience in words.
