News Topical, Digital Desk : In a significant breakthrough, police in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district have arrested a suspected thief who committed several thefts at police personnel's homes. The man, identified as Dipesh from Alirajpur district, was taken into custody during the investigation into a theft that occurred at the Khandwa Police Lines on January 20. According to officials, the homes of constables Karanpal Singh and Suresh Khate were burgled overnight, and jewelry and cash worth several lakhs of rupees were stolen.
The police's breakthrough in the investigation came with the help of CCTV footage obtained from the police lines. Officials said ₹30,000 in cash and some jewelry were recovered. Following the suspect's arrest, searches were conducted in Jhabua, Alirajpur, and Dhar districts. Police say the accused frequently changed his location and was heading towards Burhanpur.
Arrest and trial of the accused
When police attempted to apprehend him, the accused allegedly tried to escape by jumping from the roof, injuring his arms and legs. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and later produced before a Khandwa court and remanded in judicial custody.
Khandwa's Additional Superintendent of Police, Mahendra Taranekar, called it a major success and said that based on the interrogation, other incidents and absconding associates will be identified. Investigators claim that the accused admitted targeting only the homes of policemen, citing a beating he received in Alirajpur about 15 years ago.
Evasion tactics and absconding partner
Station House Officer Praveen Arya stated that the accused would pose as a street vendor near the police line and survey the area before committing the theft. Police claimed that two alleged accomplices, Ramesh and Bhuraliya, are still at large and are being searched for. This arrest will help Khandwa police break the criminal network and prevent such incidents in the future.
