Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus during the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok. Many issues were discussed between the two leaders. During this, Yunus also raised the issue of Sheikh Hasina's extradition.

 

This information was given by Foreign Ministry Secretary Vikram Misri. While giving a briefing on PM Modi's Thailand visit, Misri said, 'There was a discussion between PM Modi and Mohammad Yunus on the extradition of Sheikh Hasina. I cannot say anything more about this.'

 

Support for stability in Bangladesh

Let us tell you that this is the first meeting of Mohammad Yunus with PM Modi after Sheikh Hasina stepped down from her post in Bangladesh and left the country. PM Modi raised the issue of holding elections in Bangladesh as soon as possible and the condition of Hindus and minorities with Yunus.

 

Misri said, "Prime Minister Modi reiterated India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. He underlined India's desire to build positive and constructive relations with Bangladesh."

 

PM gave advice to Yunus

  • PM Modi has also instructed Mohammad Yunus to stay away from unnecessary rhetoric. According to Misri, 'The PM also urged that any rhetoric that spoils the atmosphere should be avoided. On the border, strict adherence to the law and prevention of illegal border crossing is necessary to maintain border security and safety.'
  • He said that 'PM also underlined India's concerns over the safety and security of minorities including Hindus in Bangladesh.' PM posted a picture of the summit on social media site X and wrote, 'With fellow BIMSTEC leaders at the summit held in Bangkok, Thailand. We reaffirm our commitment to enhance cooperation in diverse areas. May our efforts bring positive change in the lives of people.'
