Earlier, on June 4, 1902, the temperature of Doon was 43.9 degree Celsius, which is an all-time record.
For the last five days, the mercury in Doon has remained above 41 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of Pantnagar was 41.0 degrees, the maximum temperature of Mukteshwar was 31.2 degrees, the maximum temperature of Tehri was 31.6 degrees Celsius.
There is no possibility of relief from heat at the moment
The maximum temperature was recorded above 46 degrees Celsius in many places in the national capital Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. There seems to be no relief from the heat in the near future.
"Severe heatwave conditions were recorded in isolated parts of Uttar Pradesh. Some areas of Jharkhand, Bihar and Punjab are also facing heatwave conditions. Maximum temperatures settled between 44-47 degrees Celsius in Chandigarh, Delhi, many areas of Haryana and some parts of west Jharkhand, south-west Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan," the weather department said.
53 percent less rain in northwest India
In its forecast for the next two weeks, the weather department said that the cumulative monsoon rainfall across the country in the first 12 days of this season was four per cent below normal. Northwest India received 53 per cent less rainfall. Southern India received 60 per cent more rainfall than normal during the period June 1-12. Conditions are likely to become favorable for the advance of the southwest monsoon around June 19.
According to the Meteorological Department, between March 1 and June 9, Odisha faced heatwave conditions for 27 days, which is the highest in the country. West Rajasthan experienced heatwave conditions for 23 days, Bengal for 21 days, Haryana-Delhi-West Uttar Pradesh for 20 days, West Madhya Pradesh for 19 days and Gujarat and East Rajasthan for 17 days.
10 people died due to heat wave in Bihar
In Bihar, 10 people died due to heat stroke and two fell unconscious. The deceased include three from Patna, two from Bhojpur district, one each from Jehanabad, Arwal, Nalanda, Saran and Siwan. On Thursday, the maximum temperature of Buxar was recorded at 47.2 degree Celsius. The effect of severe heat stroke remained in Gaya, Buxar, Bhojpur, Vaishali, Aurangabad, Nawada, Rajgir, Jiradei and Arwal. During the last 24 hours, rain also occurred in different parts of Purnia, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria and Katihar.
Instructions for arranging coolers in examination centers
The second semester examination of the undergraduate session 2023-27 started at 60 centers of Veer Kunwar Singh University located in Ara, Bihar. At many examination centers in Bhojpur district, students were seen taking off their t-shirts and shirts and giving the exam due to heat and sweat. Vice Chancellor Prof. Shailendra Kumar Chaturvedi has directed to make arrangements for coolers in all the examination centers.
Heat wave swept Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Amritsar, Pathankot and Patiala. Pathankot was the hottest. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 47.8 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of Bathinda was also 47 and Faridkot was 46.1 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert regarding heat wave in the state till June 17.
In Himachal Pradesh, the minimum temperature has increased by one to two degrees. On Thursday, a student from Nangal studying in an educational institution in Mehtpur fell unconscious.
Kanpur was the hottest
Kanpur was the hottest place in Uttar Pradesh with a temperature of 46.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Agra reached 46.5 degrees. Here, for the third time, the night temperature reached a record 33.5 degrees. In Prayagraj, the maximum temperature was 46.5 degrees for the third consecutive day. On the other hand, 60 bats were found dead in the Vindhamganj forest department campus in Sonbhadra on Thursday. The forest department campus in Vindhamganj is located on the banks of the river.
