The discussion on the Wakf Bill once again proved that if the opposition is only political, the facts disappear just like horns from a donkey's head. To pass the bill, there was a discussion of more than 20 hours in both the houses of the Parliament. Many learned members from the opposition also presented their views but everyone kept deviating from the main issue. None of the opposition members thought it necessary to speak on the scams going on inside the Waqf Board and the proper management of properties worth lakhs of crores. Whereas this bill was brought for this very purpose. But what is even more interesting is that the spirit of fighting for politics in the opposition seems to be slowly disappearing. The preparations of the opposition in both the houses of the Parliament were half-hearted. In such a situation, it remains to be seen how much additional benefit they will get on the ground from this opposition. However, the BJP seemed to be moving a step ahead on the front of 'Sabka Vishwas'. The strong support given by the allies to the bill is an indication of this. It is a good thing that the opposition realized that the majority is in favor of the government and the bill has to be passed, so they did not try to create a ruckus. But it is dangerous to show fatigue and defeat on the face. On Thursday, when the bill passed by the Lok Sabha was presented in the Rajya Sabha, many opposition chairs were empty.
This is important because only seven-eight months ago, the behavior and enthusiasm of the opposition was such that it seemed as if they had won the Lok Sabha elections and together they could successfully put pressure on the government. But now they have realized that they are not only in the opposition but are a divided opposition party. Remember that five-six months ago when the Waqf was presented, Shiv Sena Uddhav had walked out in protest.
Muslims in Maharashtra had raised objections to this. This started during the Delhi elections and is going to continue in the future. That is why every effort was made to keep the discussion on the bill connected to the Muslim religion. No opposition member opened his mouth on the functioning of the Wakf Board and the need for reform in it. That is, neither did they defend the handful of influential Muslims who directly or indirectly hold the board, nor did they succeed in explaining that this bill will increase problems in the lives of common Muslims.
On the other hand, by giving the message of unity among the NDA allies and the benefits of increased income of Wakf, they were successful in telling that by bringing efficiency in the management of Wakf Board, the large population of Muslims will definitely benefit. Actually, the government has benefited from the atmosphere created by the opposition regarding CAA (Citizenship Act) in the previous government and it will benefit it in the future too. A movement was run in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh for two years under political patronage and people were scared that the citizenship of Muslims is in danger.
Two years are about to pass but not a single such case has come to light. The government has made efforts to include those backward Muslims in Waqf who were not even allowed to come near Waqf. Their number is very large. Now they will not only be directly benefited by Waqf properties but will also consider themselves empowered. Keep in mind that for the last few years, they are also getting the benefit of government schemes.
