New Delhi. Vat Savitri Vrat 2024: Vat Savitri Vrat, also known as Savitri Amavasya or Vat Purnima. This fast has great importance in Hindu religion. This year this fast will be observed on June 6, 2024. On this day, married women observe a fast for the long life, happiness and prosperity of their husbands. It is believed that observing this fast brings blessings of good fortune to the family members. Along with this, happiness also comes in life.
Satyavan was short lived
According to legend, Rajarshi Ashwapati had a daughter named Savitri. After a few years, when his beloved daughter grew up, he thought of marrying her. He searched for a suitable groom for his daughter but his search was not complete, then he asked his daughter to find the groom of her choice.
After some time, Savitri met Dyumatsena's son Satyavan, and with the desire to marry him, she went to her father. Satyavan had a short life, which was informed to his father King Ashwapati by Devarshi Narada.
Savitri had started following Yamraj
Hearing this, he advised Savitri not to marry. Despite this, Savitri did not agree and married Satyavan as per the law. Shortly after the marriage, her husband died, with whose soul Yamraj left the earth for the next world.
But seeing this, Savitri started following Yamraj. Yamraj tried a lot to stop her. But Savitri did not listen. After this, Yamraj tempted her to ask for three boons.
Savitri had asked for such a boon
In her first boon, Savitri asked for eyesight for her disabled mother-in-law. In the second wish he asked for the lost kingdom. At the same time, in the third marriage, Savitri used her sharp intelligence and said - If you are happy with me, then bless me to become the mother of a hundred sons. After listening to this boon, Yamraj said Amen and started moving ahead.
Even after this, Savitri continued following Yamraj. Seeing her coming behind him, Yama Dev said - 'O Goddess! What do you want now?' Listening to him, Savitri said - 'You have given me the blessing of becoming a mother, but how can I become a mother without a husband?' Hearing this, Yamraj was stunned and at that very moment he freed Satyavan from his noose.
Since then, married women observe Vat Savitri fast, so that like Savitri, they too can get the blessing of good fortune.
