United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called on Israel to stop violating Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity as he condemned Israel's widespread air strikes aimed at destroying strategic weapons and military infrastructure.

Guterres said that there should be no military forces other than UN peacekeepers in the buffer zone between the two countries and those peacekeepers should have freedom of movement to work. He said that Israel and Syria should maintain the terms of the 1974 army disengagement agreement. He said that some people will try to take advantage of the situation. But it is the responsibility of the international community to stand with the people of Syria.

 

US doubles its military presence in Syria

America has doubled its army in Syria. A Pentagon spokesperson said that the number of American soldiers there has currently been increased to 2000. This is 1100 more than the 900 American soldiers given earlier.

 

American team arrives in Syria

At the same time, the first American diplomat to visit Syria after the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power has now reached Damascus to talk to those involved in the new power in the country and to get information about the missing American journalist Austin Tice. This team is also the first group of American diplomats who are formally visiting Syria since the US closed the embassy in Damascus in 2012.

 

Turkiye will help in reconstruction: Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that his country will support Syria's transition process and contribute to the country's recovery and stability. "Drafting the constitution is an important step in rebuilding the state," Erdogan told reporters while returning from Cairo. "We have started communication with key figures in Syria's new administration," Erdogan said. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Syria soon to discuss building a cooperative framework for Syria's future.
