California (USA): Presidential elections are to be held in the US in November this year. Political rallies are going on for the same. Meanwhile, a case of lapse in the security of Donald Trump, who is contesting the election as a Republican leader, has come to light.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, a man was arrested near the venue of Trump's election rally in Coachella, California on Saturday. The man is accused of illegally possessing a loaded gun and a high-capacity cartridge magazine.
Police said the suspect was identified as Wem Miller, who was stopped by police at a checkpoint about a half-mile from the rally entrance.
Was there preparation for the third attack on Trump?
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said, "We may have prevented another assassination attempt." He further said that Wem Miller was plotting to kill Trump.
The 49-year-old Las Vegas resident was not only carrying guns when he was caught by authorities, but he also had fake press IDs and VIP passes. The suspect was driving a black SUV that was stopped at a security checkpoint outside Trump's rally.
the accused was released
Miller was charged with illegally possessing a loaded gun and ammunition. But he was released on $5,000 bail the same day.
Police said Miller is believed to be a member of a right-wing anti-government organization.
The sheriff's office issued a press note in which they said that the incident did not affect the safety of former President Trump or the people present at the event.
A joint federal statement was issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office, the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI regarding the incident.
The statement said that the US Attorney's Office, the US Secret Service and the FBI are aware of the Riverside County Sheriff's Office's arrest on Saturday. The US Secret Service assessed that the incident did not affect security operations and former President Trump was not in any danger. Although no federal arrests have been made at this time, the investigation is ongoing.
The statement further said that the US Attorney's Office, US Secret Service, and FBI express their gratitude to the officers and local partners who helped ensure the security of last night's event.
Trump has been attacked before
Trump narrowly escaped death when a gunman's bullet grazed his ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July.
In September, another man was accused of trying to assassinate Trump after Secret Service agents found him hiding with a rifle near Trump's Palm Beach golf course.
