China claims that this telescope can cover twice the area compared to others and its reading capability is also 3-5 times more accurate.
Built in five years
The diameter of this Aperture Spherical Telescope is 500 meters and it can be tilted up to 30 degrees. This telescope of about 16 thousand feet took five years to build and it was made fully operational in the year 2020.
It is located in Daodang in Guizhou, the south-western province of China. The total cost of building it was Rs 26.9 crore. The radius of three miles around it was completely evacuated so that there is no interference in the radio waves.
