New Delhi: In a unique development, Earth is going to get another moon today. Actually, it is an asteroid, which scientists have named Mini Moon or 2024 PT5. This mini moon or small moon will temporarily orbit the Earth from September 29 to November 25.
According to the information given by PTI, it will temporarily orbit the Earth from today i.e. 29 September to 25 November. The arrival of the mini moon has increased the interest of space lovers. However, due to its small size and low brightness, we will not be able to see it with the naked eye. It cannot be seen even with a simple telescope, but an astronomical telescope is needed to get a glimpse of it.
It can be seen like this
According to information received from Space.com, NASA will start receiving pictures of asteroid 2024 PT5 on September 29 at 3:54 pm (US time). This asteroid will be visible only till 11.43 am on November 25. Experts say that only an astronomical telescope can take pictures of the miniature moon. Today you will be able to see amazing pictures of the 2024 PTS asteroid online.
What is Asteroid 2024 PT5?
This asteroid named 2024 PT5 was seen by NASA on August 7 this year. It originated from the Arjuna Asteroid Belt. It consists of rocks like Earth. It is about 33 feet wide. It will not orbit the Earth completely. Its orbit will change slightly due to the Earth's gravity before moving on. Its speed is about 2,200 miles per hour.
When was it first seen?
It is worth noting that mini-moons have been observed before and have gone unnoticed by many. Some have come close to Earth again, including asteroid 2022 NX1, which first came close to Earth as a mini-moon in 1981 and again in 2022. 2024 PT5 is expected to return to Earth's orbit in 2055.
