Imphal: A mob stormed a police station and looted weapons during a clash between two groups in Manipur's Ukhrul, officials said on Thursday. Three people were killed and 20 injured on Wednesday in a shootout between two groups over cleaning of a disputed land in the town as part of a cleanliness drive.

Members of both groups belong to the Naga community but are residents of different villages. Both claim their rights over the land. Prohibitory orders were imposed in the town after the clash. Mobile internet services have been suspended. Weapons have been looted from various police stations in the state earlier as well, but those areas were dominated by the Meitei or Kuki community. According to the source, this is the first time a police station has been attacked in a Naga-dominated area. This police station is just a few meters away from the Assam Rifles camp.

Two youths reached Imphal after being released after kidnapping

Two youths held hostage by armed men in Manipur's Kangpokpi district were released on Thursday, seven days after their abduction. The two youths - Oinam Thoithoi Singh and Thoithoiba Singh - were handed over to the Kangpokpi Superintendent of Police at Gamgiphai Naka at around 5 am, the official said. The two reached Imphal under the protection of the state police and Assam Rifles. They will be handed over to their families soon. The two had gone with another youth, Johnson Singh, on September 27. They lost their way. Johnson was rescued by the Army and handed over to the police, while the two youths remained in the custody of the armed men.

According to ANI, Manipur Police has recovered a huge amount of arms and ammunition in a search operation in sensitive areas of the state. Manipur Police posted on Instagram, 'Security forces seized four locally manufactured improvised mortars (Pumpi) in a search operation in sensitive areas. In another search operation, IEDs, grenades, petrol bombs, bore rifles, Pumpi ammunition, detonators were recovered from Tengnoupal district.'
