Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president and former IPS officer K. Annamalai today staged a unique protest by whipping himself outside his house in Coimbatore. He has started his 48-day Murugan Diksha from today. Annamalai has also taken a Bhishma Pledge that he will not wear slippers or shoes on his feet until the DMK government is removed from Tamil Nadu.
whip yourself
Annamalai whipped himself in front of his house on Friday to protest against the DMK government over the sexual harassment incident at Anna University. Annamalai was seen whipping himself and when he whipped six lashes, one of the people standing behind rushed towards him and stopped him from whipping himself further.
vowed to stay barefoot
The BJP in the state is demanding justice for the sexual harassment victim and fixing the accountability of the government. Annamalai, who vowed to remain barefoot until the DMK government is removed in Coimbatore on Thursday, made serious allegations against the DMK government and said that since the accused is a DMK worker, the system deliberately leaked the FIR of the victim and through the FIR, an attempt was made to question the character of the victim.
protest against sexual harassment
Earlier, Annamalai had vowed that he would not wear sandals and walk barefoot until the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government is removed. During this time, he had also announced to whip himself. Annamalai had said that he would whip himself six times outside his house at 10 am on December 27 so that people's attention would be drawn towards the incident of sexual harassment of a student of Anna University.
He had said that the accused Ganasekaran is an official of the DMK, while the ruling party has denied it. The BJP leader showed pictures of the accused with DMK leaders and alleged that he is an official of the student wing of the ruling party. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Raghupati said that the accused in the sexual harassment case is not even a primary member of the DMK.
The accused is associated with DMK-Annamalai
BJP leader Annamalai said that since the accused is associated with the DMK, the police did not take action against him. He sought to know about the use of Nirbhaya funds to prevent such crimes. Annamalai also questioned the way the FIR was written and said it was written in such a way as if the victim had committed a crime. "The DMK (government) should be ashamed of revealing the identity of the victim," he said. He announced that he would not wear shoes until the DMK government was removed. The BJP leader said he would perform a 48-day 'Viraatham' (spiritual fast) by worshiping Lord Muruga and offering prayers at all the six 'Arupadai' temples in the state by February 2025.
