Tiruvallur: An express train collided with a freight train at Kavarapettai railway station in the district. After the accident, two coaches of the Darbhanga Express caught fire. Railway sources say that the Darbhanga Express train collided with the rear of a freight train already parked on the railway track. According to the information received so far, two coaches have caught fire, while three coaches have derailed. The freight train has been more affected by the accident. Some passengers are also reported to be injured in the accident. The fire has not been controlled yet. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out.

Two bogies caught fire

According to the information received, this accident happened on Friday evening at around 08:30 near Kavarapeti railway station. During the accident, a goods train was already standing on the same track on which Darbhanga Express train was going. Due to the darkness of the night, the loco pilot could not see the goods train and the train collided with the goods train from behind. After the accident, five to six coaches of the train derailed. Two coaches also caught fire. NDRF team is also reaching the spot. Relief and rescue work is being done. At present, efforts are being made to control the fire. So far 10 injured have been admitted to the hospital.

Any information related to the injured or the train accident can be obtained by calling on these numbers. At present, the movement of trains on the train route has also been affected. Due to the accident, three trains are stranded in Chennai Gudur area, which are being planned to be run via a diverted route. These trains are Tiruchirapalli-Howrah Express, Ernakulam-Tatanagar Express and Kakinada-Dhanbad Special Express. At the same time, all the passengers are being taken to Chennai Central by EMU by the Railways. A new train has been prepared in Chennai to take the passengers to Darbhanga and other destinations including free food/water/breakfast.
