New Delhi. The death toll due to consumption of illicit liquor in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district has risen to 57. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the main suspect who supplied the poisonous liquor. It is being said that these people have died due to drinking liquor containing methanol.
The Tamil Nadu government will provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased. This incident came to light on June 19. The state government has also announced to bear the entire education and hostel expenses of the children who lost one or both parents.
BJP surrounded the opposition
On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fiercely attacked the opposition in this matter. BJP national spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra questioned the silence of the Congress. He said why are Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka and Sonia Gandhi silent on the liquor tragedy in Tamil Nadu? Patra termed this incident as a sponsored murder.
