Tiruchirappalli:  An Air India flight from Trichy to Sharjah has been forced to make an emergency landing back at Trichy airport. Earlier, the plane had a technical fault as soon as it took off and it kept circling around the airport for two hours.

According to the information, there was a hydraulic related problem in the plane. As a precaution, preparations for emergency landing were already made at the airport. Ambulances and fire tenders were also stationed at the airport. There were about 142 passengers on board the plane.

According to IANS, the Air India flight from Trichy to Sharjah developed a technical fault. There were 141 passengers on board the plane. The plane, which took off from Tiruchi airport at 5.40 pm, developed a hydraulic problem soon after takeoff, which resulted in the landing gear of the plane malfunctioning and the wheels could not retract.

The pilot declared an emergency and initiated safety protocols, which included circling the Trichy airfield for over an hour to reduce the aircraft's fuel weight, a necessary step for a safe emergency landing. All 141 passengers are reported to be safe and Air India has assured that all possible measures are being taken to resolve the situation smoothly.

Preparations had already been made

Airport officials told news agency IANS that ambulances and fire engines were ready at the airport for the emergency landing of the plane. Airport Director Gopalakrishnan said that 20 ambulances and 18 fire engines were present at the airport for the emergency landing of the plane. He also said that all emergency landing protocols were activated. 

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin wrote on the incident, 'I am happy to hear that the Air India Express plane has landed safely. On receiving the news of the landing gear problem, I immediately held an emergency meeting with the officials over the phone and directed them to implement all necessary safety measures, including deployment of fire engines, ambulances and medical assistance. I have now directed the District Collector to ensure the continued safety of all passengers and provide further assistance. My congratulations to the Captain and crew for the safe landing.'
