New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on Monday a plea by the BJP against a Calcutta High Court order, which had restrained the party from issuing advertisements that were seen as violating the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha elections.
The cause list has been uploaded on the Supreme Court website on May 27, according to which a division bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Vishwanathan will hear the case. On May 22, the division bench of the High Court refused to hear the appeal against the interim order of the single bench.
The apex court had banned the publication of party advertisements
On May 20, a single bench had banned the BJP from publishing party advertisements that violate the code of conduct till June 4. The court has also banned BJP advertisements mentioning Trinamool Congress in Bengal in which baseless allegations were made against TMC.
BJP claimed in the petition
The BJP has claimed in the petition that while delivering its verdict, the single bench of the High Court did not take into account that the matter was already before the Election Commission.
