The Supreme Court termed the stampede at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh as an "unfortunate incident" and refused to hear a PIL seeking directions to implement safety measures and guidelines for pilgrims coming from all over the country. The Supreme Court asked the lawyer who filed the PIL to approach the Allahabad High Court with his petition.
Demand for action against those responsible in the petition
This PIL has been filed by Supreme Court lawyer Vishal Tiwari regarding the Maha Kumbh stampede. The petition demands a status report on the stampede that happened on the day of Mauni Amavasya and action against the responsible officials. Not only this, it also talks about opening a facility center in the fair by all the states, so that non-Hindi speaking citizens do not face any inconvenience.
30 killed, 60 injured in stampede
Let us tell you that 30 people were killed and 60 were injured in the incident that took place in the early hours of 29 January on Mauni Amavasya in Maha Kumbh. However, a large number of devotees continue to come to the fair area and the stampede incident does not seem to have any significant effect on the devotees coming here. After this, the government has adopted 5 major measures for crowd management in the fair area, which include ban on the entry of outside vehicles and cancellation of VVIP passes.
