Several leaders, including Congress' Sonia Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, had contacted Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's family expressing concern over his health after he was admitted to AIIMS on March 9 due to heart-related ailments. Dhankhar himself revealed this in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Let us tell you that during his tenure as the Governor of West Bengal, deep differences were often seen between Jagdeep Dhankhar and Mamata Banerjee. These differences between the Mamata government and the Governor's House were also seen turning into a conflict, but it did not affect the personal relationship between Dhankhar and CM Mamata. The Vice President himself said that Mamata Banerjee and Sonia Gandhi remained in touch with the family during his hospitalization.

'Nadda and Kharge were the first people to contact the family'

After his health improved, Dhankhar on Monday presided over the proceedings of the House for the first time in the second phase of the budget session. He said that he was overwhelmed by the concerns expressed by the leaders of various parties and this contributed to his speedy recovery. He said, "Leader of the House Jagat Prakash Nadda and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge were the first people to contact my family." He said, "Sonia Gandhi and the Chief Ministers of many states including West Bengal contacted my wife." Sonia Gandhi was present in the House when Dhankhar mentioned this.

PM Modi met him in the hospital

Dhankhar was admitted to AIIMS in the national capital on March 9 after suffering from cardiac ailments. He was discharged from the hospital on March 12 and advised to take adequate rest. Dhankhar said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the concern expressed by members over his health was a "realization" for him that "when a situation like this comes, our hearts are connected." He said, "This will be a source of inspiration and knowledge for me." He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others met him in the hospital and enquired about his well-being. The Chairman said that many others also wanted to visit the hospital but could not due to the restrictions. He said, "I express my gratitude (to all of them)."
