Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has given important information about the vacant posts in the state. He said on Tuesday (March 04) that more than 32,000 posts are vacant in 37 departments of the government, of which the Health and Medical Education Department has the highest number of vacancies at 7,851. 

Omar Abdullah told the assembly, "Since the formation of the government on October 16 last year, the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) and the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) have been entrusted with the task of filling 3,727 vacancies."

Omar Abdullah gave information on the question of Sajjad Lone

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said this in response to a question raised by People's Conference MLA Sajjad Gani Lone. Abdullah is also in charge of the General Administration Department. Lone had sought information about the total number of vacancies in various departments in Jammu and Kashmir till January 31 and the vacancies sent to both the government recruitment agencies after the formation of the National Conference-led government.

How many posts are vacant in Jammu and Kashmir?

The Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said that as of January 31, 32,474 posts - 2,503 gazetted, 19,214 non-gazetted and 10,757 multi-tasking staff (MTS) - were lying vacant. He further said, "Out of these vacancies, 738 gazetted, 1,754 non-gazetted and 1,235 MTS posts were sent to JKSSB and JKPSC after the formation of the government."

Apart from this, 594 gazetted posts are to be filled in the School Education Department, 56 in the Health and Medical Education Department, 45 in the Electricity Department, and 41 in the Horticulture Department.
