Tension once again prevailed on the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. First there was an argument and then a clash between the farmers of both the countries. However, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) intervened immediately and the situation was immediately brought under control.

According to the BSF, the incident took place at around 11:45 am today when Indian farmers working near the international border accused Bangladeshi farmers of stealing crops. It said that the altercation soon turned violent and farmers from both sides gathered in large numbers, started abusing each other and pelting stones at each other.

BSF and BGB intervened

The BSF said in a statement, "BSF and BGB personnel intervened timely and brought the situation under control immediately. Farmers from both sides were dispersed and sent back to their respective areas. No one was reported injured in the incident."

Farmers should inform their problems to BSF

The BSF stressed on avoiding such disputes and advised Indian farmers to directly report any agricultural problems along the border to the force personnel. "We have requested the Indian farmers to maintain peace and avoid getting involved in border disputes. Necessary action will be taken in case of any complaint," the statement said.

The BGB across the border also played a key role in controlling the situation. By afternoon, some Bangladeshi citizens were seen within 50-75 metres of the international border, but according to reports, BGB personnel stopped them, which prevented the situation from worsening. According to the statement, the BSF and BGB commandants posted in the area are working to increase coordination to avoid such incidents in future.
