A horrifying case of ragging has come to light at a government college in Kerala, where five senior medical students subjected their juniors to months of extreme physical and mental torture. The shocking incident occurred at Kottayam Government Nursing College, where the accused third-year students reportedly harassed three first-year students from Thiruvananthapuram.
Students Endured Months of Abuse Before Filing a Complaint
The ordeal began in November last year, with the juniors enduring continuous ragging for nearly three months. Unable to bear the abuse any longer, the victims finally mustered the courage to report the matter to the Kottayam Gandhinagar police.
In their complaint, they detailed the severe physical and psychological torment inflicted by their seniors, which led authorities to take immediate action.
Five Senior Students Arrested and Suspended
Following the complaint, the college administration suspended all five accused students. Additionally, law enforcement swiftly intervened and arrested them under the Anti-Ragging Act.
Unspeakable Brutality in the Name of Ragging
The extent of the cruelty inflicted on the first-year students is deeply disturbing. According to police reports:
- The victims were forced to stand naked while their seniors hung dumbbells from their private parts.
- They were injured with sharp objects, including a geometry compass, causing severe pain and distress.
- The perpetrators then applied lotion to the wounds, which intensified the victims’ suffering.
- When the victims screamed in pain, the seniors forcibly put the lotion into their mouths.
- The seniors recorded these horrifying acts and threatened to punish the juniors further if they dared to report the abuse.
This level of sadistic violence has sparked outrage, with students and parents demanding stricter action against ragging in educational institutions.
Ragging Claims Another Life in Kerala
This distressing case comes just weeks after another tragic incident in Kochi, where a 15-year-old school student committed suicide due to relentless ragging. The victim’s mother revealed that her son was brutally harassed by seniors, ultimately leading to his tragic death.
Need for Stricter Anti-Ragging Measures
The recent cases highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of anti-ragging laws in educational institutions. While laws exist, enforcement remains inconsistent, allowing such inhumane acts to persist.
Authorities must take stronger preventive measures, increase awareness programs, and ensure that strict action is taken against offenders to create a safe environment for students.
