The last rites of the Parsis are performed according to the Dokhmenashini tradition

According to the old tradition of the Parsi community, the bodies are cremated at a place called "Dokhma", where the body is left for the vultures, which eat the body. This tradition is a symbol of purity and sanctity according to the Parsi religion. However, with time many people of the Parsi community are now abandoning this tradition.

The tradition is almost 3000 years old

This funeral tradition of the Parsi community is believed to be about 3 thousand years old. Under this, the dead body is placed on the "Dakhma" or "Tower of Silence" after purifying it. Here carnivorous birds, especially eagles, eat it. Let us tell you here that Dakhma or Tower of Silence is called the cemetery of the Parsis. It is a circular hollow building.

The body was kept at NPCA lawn for the last rites
