YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia on Tuesday gave a written assurance in the Supreme Court that he will maintain decency in his show. Senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud told a bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh that his client has filed a written undertaking and has joined the investigation in the case. Chandrachud requested the apex court to amend the condition imposed on Allahabadia to submit his passport. He argued that this condition affects his livelihood.
The bench will consider Allahabadia's passport after two weeks
Chandrachud said that Allahabadia has to travel abroad to interview various people, which requires several rounds of meetings. The bench said that if Allahabadia goes abroad, it will affect the investigation. The bench asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the governments of Maharashtra and Assam, about the time frame in which the investigation would be completed. Mehta said that although he has not requested any direction in this regard, the investigation is likely to be completed in two weeks. After this, the bench said that it would consider Allahabadia's request to return the passport after two weeks.
Ranveer Allahabadis assured the court
The apex court had on March 3 allowed Allahabadia to resume his podcast 'The Ranveer Show'. However, it had clarified that the show should maintain "morality and decency" and make it suitable for viewers of all ages. Allahabadia, popularly known as 'BeerBiceps', had landed in trouble for making controversial remarks on parenting and sexual relations on YouTuber Samay Raina's YouTube show 'India's Got Latent'. FIRs were lodged against him in various police stations in Maharashtra and Assam. On February 18, the Supreme Court, while granting interim protection from arrest to Allahabadia, had termed his comments as "obscene" and said that his "perverted mindset" brought shame to society.
