America On Bangladesh Minorities: The United States has stressed on ensuring the safety of religious and ethnic minorities in Bangladesh and said that they are closely monitoring the developments in Bangladesh. National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby revealed this in a press briefing at the White House on Thursday (December 12).

According to a report in Prothom Alo, a journalist asked a question that several Hindu American groups have been holding protest marches across the country for the past few weeks, with one march being taken out outside the White House over the weekend. They are protesting against the "continuous killings of Hindus and temples in Bangladesh" after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. He asked whether the US President was aware of these issues and whether he had talked about this during his meeting with the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, during the United Nations meeting.

Know what answer America gave?

In response, John Kirby said, "We are watching this very, very, very closely and the President is watching events closely. The security situation in Bangladesh has become difficult since the ouster of the former prime minister and we are working closely with the interim government to enhance the capacity of their law enforcement and security services to meet this challenge."

'The interim government of Bangladesh has given assurance'

He further said, "We have been very clear in our conversations with all Bangladeshi leaders that the protection of religious and ethnic minorities is of utmost importance and the leaders of the interim government have repeatedly committed to providing security to all Bangladeshis regardless of religion or ethnicity."
