Chennai: Police killed one member of a gang that fled to Tamil Nadu after looting three ATMs in Kerala, while the other six members were arrested. All the members of the gang are said to be from Haryana. This gang had targeted three ATMs in Thrissur, Kerala and looted about Rs 70 lakh.
The accused ran away after hitting the vehicles
According to the police, the gang was caught on Friday in Kumarapalayam area of Namakkal district when they were trying to escape after hitting several vehicles. A container truck was seized. A car was found inside it, which was used in the robbery. Investigations are underway to find out their role in the recent ATM robbery in the district.
Two police personnel were also injured
Salem Range DIG ES Uma said that one of them was injured when the police fired in self-defense. In an attempt to escape, the container driver and one of his associates attacked the police with sharp weapons. Two police officers injured in this have been admitted to the hospital. The slain miscreant has been identified as Jamal. He was the driver of the container.
All the miscreants were from Haryana
A car brought from Haryana was used in the crime. He told that all the members are from Haryana. The bag full of cash has been recovered. Thrissur police had alerted about the container truck. After this, during the checking of vehicles, an attempt was made to stop a container with Rajasthan number, but it did not stop. While trying to escape, it hit many vehicles. Police did not know that there was a car in the container truck.
