. Every year, Pitru Paksha starts from the full moon date of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha, while it is believed to end on the Amavasya date of Ashwin month. This year, Pitru Paksha started on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, which will end on Wednesday, 02 October. It is described in the scriptures that the Shradh of the person who dies on a particular date is performed on the same date. But if you have forgotten the date of your ancestors, or could not perform Shradh due to some reason, then in such a situation you can perform Shradh on this date.
Date of Shraadh
- Pratipada Tithi - The shraddha of maternal grandparents is performed on this date. In such a situation, if someone does not remember the date of their maternal grandparents, then their shraddha can be performed on the Pratipada Tithi of the Shraddha Paksha.
- Panchami Tithi - The Shraddha of those people who die before marriage is performed on Panchami Tithi.
- Navami Tithi - Navami Tithi of Pitru Paksha is considered to be the best for the Shradh of those women who die while their husband is alive, i.e. those who die in a married state. Along with this, this date is also considered to be the best for the Shradh of the mother, hence it is also called Matri-Navami. In such a situation, Shradh of all the deceased women of the family can be performed on Navami Tithi.
- Ekadashi and Dwadashi Tithi - On Ekadashi and Dwadashi Tithi, the Shradh of all those people who have taken up Sanyas can be performed.
- Chaturdashi and Trayodashi Tithi - According to the scriptures, on the Chaturdashi Tithi of Pitru Paksha, the Shradh of those people is performed who have died due to weapons, suicide, poison or any accident. That is, the Shradh of any person who has died an untimely death is performed on Chaturdashi. Trayodashi Tithi is considered best for the Shradh of children.
- Amavasya Tithi - The Amavasya Tithi of the month of Ashwin marks the end of Pitru Paksha, which is also known as Sarvapitri Amavasya. If for some reason you are unable to perform the Shradh of your ancestors on other dates of Pitru Paksha, then in such a situation, their Shradh can be performed on the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya. That is, the Shradh of all known and unknown ancestors is performed on this date.
