Islamabad. The Pakistan government told the Supreme Court that jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan is being provided with the best facilities. He has been provided with a colour TV, separate kitchen, exercise equipment. Along with this, he has been given a walking area near the barrack and other facilities.
Imran, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since September last year. He was arrested on August 5, 2023 after being convicted in the Toshakhana corruption case. He is currently lodged in Adiala Jail.
In one case, the PTI founder, who appeared in the Supreme Court on May 30, complained to the Chief Justice that he was being held in solitary confinement. The government has banned him from meeting lawyers and family members.
In its reply to the Supreme Court, the government rejected his claim and provided a list of the facilities provided to him. It also provided photographs of Imran's cell and other items as well as his meeting with his legal team in jail. The government also provided a list of persons who met Imran.
The government has said that if necessary, a commission can be formed to verify Imran's allegations. Earlier in March, the government formalised the standard operating procedure (SOP) to facilitate meetings with the convicted former prime minister.
