Earlier, PM Modi had expressed deep grief over the accident that happened in Mahakumbh yesterday. PM Modi termed this 'accident' as 'extremely sad' and expressed his deep condolences to the devotees who lost their family members in it. After talking to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath four times in the wake of the accident, Modi said in a post on 'X', "The accident that happened in Prayagraj Mahakumbh is extremely sad. My deepest condolences to the devotees who have lost their family members in this. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured.''
A day after the stampede incident in the Maha Kumbh Mela area, the state government has further intensified its efforts to control the crowd and ensure the safety of the devotees. Meanwhile, a large number of devotees continue to come to the fair area on Thursday as well. The stampede incident that happened late on Tuesday night does not seem to have any special effect on the devotees coming here and they are moving towards the bathing ghats in the desire to attain salvation. According to the state government, till 4 pm on Thursday, 1.77 crore people took a dip in the Ganga and Sangam.
Solid arrangements made for Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami
DIG, Mela, Vaibhav Krishna said on Thursday that the police is engaged in extensive security arrangements for Amrit Snan on the upcoming Basant Panchami (February 3) and deployment of policemen and security personnel is being increased amid the expectation of large number of people. He said that on Thursday the pressure of the crowd has relatively reduced and all the bridges have been reopened to facilitate movement in the fair area. However, new restrictions will be imposed at major places for better crowd management before Basant Panchami. The DIG clarified that like Mauni Amavasya, the movement of VIPs will remain banned on the upcoming Amrit Snan. After dense fog in the morning, the sun shone during the day and people continue to come to the fair area throughout the day. Women, children and the elderly were seen continuously going towards various ghats.
