The increase in the prices of potatoes and onions along with green vegetables in the summer season is causing trouble for the general public.


 

What is the price of potato and onion in the market

If we talk about onion prices, onion has become expensive by 50 percent in a week. On June 2, 2024, the price of onion in the retail market was Rs 25 to 30 per kg. Which has increased to Rs 35 to 40 per kg on June 9.

On June 11, the price of onion has gone up to Rs 50 per kg. In such a situation, the vegetable seller says that when onions are expensive in the market, then their prices will be even higher in the retail market.

On May 25, the price of onion in Lasalgaon Mandi of Nashik, the country's largest market, was Rs 17 per kilogram, which has now become Rs 25. At the same time, the price of the best quality onion has crossed Rs 30. In such a situation, it is obvious that by the time onion reaches Delhi from Nashik Mandi, an additional cost of Rs 5-7 will be added to the price of per kilogram.  

If we talk about the price of potatoes, in the beginning of June, the price of potatoes was 20-25 rupees per kg, which has now increased to 35 to 40 rupees per kg. At the same time, the price of chipsona or hilly potatoes has increased to 45 rupees per kg.

why onions are getting expensive

Eid-al-Adha (Bakra Eid) is on 17 June 2024. In such a situation, the demand for onions increases during the festival. Traders already know that the demand increases during the festival time, so they start stocking onions in advance.

Last year, the onion crop was damaged in the Rabi season, due to which onion production decreased. Due to the imbalance in production, demand and supply, onion prices increased. You will be surprised to know that the onion that comes in June comes from the stock of farmers and traders. At present, farmers are selling less stock because they expect that onion prices will rise further.
