Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi has expressed concern over Pakistan getting equipment and weapons with the support of China. He said that it is surprising how an economy, which is faltering and begging for international aid, can raise funds for the modernization of the forces?

The Navy chief said in an interview that he is keeping an eye on what is happening in the Pakistan Navy. He said, 'I think this is a matter of grave concern. It is surprising how an economy which is in shambles and begging for international aid can raise funds to modernise its armed forces.

No compromise on national interests

We are monitoring the type of weapons and platforms they are acquiring from various sources. We have devised a strategy to ensure that maritime security and national interests in the region are not compromised.' He said 63 ships are being built in Indian shipyards.

Eyes on Chinese Navy too

Speaking about Pakistan getting equipment and weapons support from China, he said, "As far as China is concerned. You are fully aware that it has become the largest navy in terms of numbers. We are also keeping an eye on this." He further said that 63 ships are being built in Indian shipyards. He said that the 17 Bravo ships are very capable frigates of 7000-8000 tonnes. According to our long-term integrated perspective plan, we should have 24 frigates. That is why 7 new stealth frigates will further enhance the capability.

Navy will be self-sufficient by 2047

The Navy Chief said that the Indian Navy will be fully self-reliant by 2047. I don't think any surface-to-surface platform will be bought from abroad. They will all be made in India. At the Naval Headquarters, we have formed two task forces led by a two-star rank officer. This team is now going to the industry and learning about what kind of technology we can adopt to overcome the shortcomings. We have also been successful to some extent. I am looking at the next few months with great expectations.
