Jammu Kashmir News: National Conference MP Agha Ruhullah Mehdi will hold a sit-in demanding rationality in the reservation policy. He said that the sit-in will start outside the Chief Minister's residence in Srinagar at 2 pm on Monday. In a post on x, Ruhullah Mehdi said that he urged everyone to wait till December 22 so that the elected government gets time to pay attention to the reservation issue. He said, "Today is the date when I had committed to stand with those whose voice demands rationality in the reservation policy."
Ruhullah said that the deadline expires tonight. He also spoke of sticking to the commitment. The MP said that tomorrow he will join the people at 2 pm in a peaceful and respectful effort to demand answers from the government.
He said, "Over the past month I have seen a variety of reactions to the formation of the sub-committee. To those who believe the issue has not been addressed satisfactorily, I stand by my commitment. Tomorrow I will join the people in a peaceful and respectful effort to demand answers from the government."
What did the Chief Minister say on the issue of reservation?
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote on Twitter, "I understand the sentiments on the reservation issue. The National Conference is committed to all aspects of the manifesto issued before the assembly elections. The reservation policy has been challenged in the High Court." He said that peaceful dharna is a constitutional right. According to the Chief Minister, the issue of reservation has not been ignored.
National Conference MPs will protest
Ruhullah appealed to the people to maintain decorum during the protest. He said that people should focus on raising genuine demands for a rational reservation policy. He also appealed to stay away from rhetoric and show honesty. The demand for repealing the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir is getting stronger. National Conference leader and MP Ruhullah Mehdi had already promised to join the demand. The policy of the Lieutenant Governor-led administration ahead of the assembly elections earlier this year limited the general category to 40 per cent while increasing the reservation for reserved categories to 60 per cent. As per the announcement, the Chief Minister will land in Srinagar on Monday morning. The Chief Minister's program is reported to have been changed due to the severe cold wave conditions affecting the Kashmir Valley.
