New Delhi. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Friday   congratulated senior advocate Kapil Sibal on being elected President of the  Supreme Court Bar Association . He said that our hearty congratulations to Kapil Sibal on being elected as the President of SCBA. We look forward to the cooperation of you and the (executive committee) members.”

Kapil Sibal responded to the wishes given by CJI. Thanking the CJI, he said, "It is an honor for me that after 22 years I have been given the opportunity to serve the Bar. You will get full support from our side and this is our commitment to the bench. We look forward to the cooperation." Through this medium we will be able to take the agenda of the court forward. 

Apart from Sibal, senior advocates Adish C Agarwal, Pradeep Kumar Rai, Priya Hingorani and advocates Tripurari Ray and Neeraj Srivastava were in the race for the post of SCBA president. According to sources, Sibal got more than 1,000 votes in the elections held on Thursday, while Rai got more than 650 votes.

Sibal was SCBA president three times

Sibal, a graduate of Harvard Law School, was the Additional Solicitor General of India during 1989–90. He was designated as senior counsel in 1983. The former Union minister in the Congress-led UPA government served as SCBA president three times between 1995 and 2002.
