News Topical, Digital Desk : Eight million new PNG connections were added in the past month, thanks to initiatives by the central government and gas companies. A continuous campaign is underway to promote domestic and commercial gas use and reduce dependence on cooking gas cylinders. A top official stated that five million cylinders were delivered, fully meeting domestic demand and 80% of commercial demand.

There is no reason to fear cylinder shortage.

There's no reason for anyone to fear a shortage. Nearly half of the new PNG gas connections for homes and commercial use have been activated, while the rest are in the pipeline. Furthermore, more than 16,000 LPG connections have been surrendered following a government initiative to ensure that those with active piped gas connections don't retain cylinders, thereby reducing pressure on the system.

Adequate stock of petroleum products and cooking gas is available.

Those who wish to surrender their connections can submit their information on a designated portal; this portal also has a 'Hall of Fame', which honors consumers who have voluntarily surrendered their connections.

Amid concerns about supply shortages and long queues, officials said there are adequate stocks of crude oil, petroleum products, and cooking gas, and they are being continuously replenished. "We have done a very good job for over a month, and we are arranging and importing supplies from wherever needed," the official said.

Online cylinder bookings increase to 95%

The central government has urged people to use alternatives like induction and electric cooktops wherever possible. Officials said online cylinder bookings have increased to 95%, while authentication code-based delivery, which aims to prevent fraud at the distributor level, has now increased from 53% in February to 90%.

Additionally, to help migrant workers who don't have regular LPG connections, oil companies have sold nearly 6.6 lakh portable 5kg cylinders since March 23. Of these, 90,000 cylinders were sold on Saturday.

This number is higher than the pre-war average of 70,000 to 75,000 per day. The government hopes that recent measures will improve the supply of raw materials to industries facing shortages.
