A car bomb blast has taken place on the outskirts of a northern Syrian city. At least 19 people are reported dead in this explosion. Most of the dead are women.
More than a dozen people have been reported injured in this blast. The car explosion took place on the outskirts of Manbij city next to a vehicle carrying mostly female agricultural workers.
According to news agency AP, Mohammad Ahmed, a nurse at the hospital, said the dead included 18 women and one man. According to the local Syrian Civil Defense, 15 other women were injured, some of them in critical condition.
No group took responsibility
According to information, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far. Deputy Director of Civil Defense Munir Mustafa said that this was the seventh car bomb explosion in Manbij in less than a month.
Violence continues in Syria
- The factions seized the city from the SDF during a fierce uprising that ousted President Bashar Assad from power in early December.
- One resident said the car that exploded was parked on the roadside. He said the continued attacks have forced residents to be more vigilant.
- Manbij activist and journalist Jamil al-Sayyed said efforts are being made by Manbij residents to focus on security in certain areas, as well as installing surveillance cameras in main areas of the city.
- At the same time, Mustafa warned that the attacks in Aleppo province, near Syria's second city, threaten Syria's progress in restoring security and economic stability after the war. Most of the explosions occurred at night.
Civilians are being targeted
Mustafa said that the Syrian government's continued attacks on civilian areas and targeting of civilians increases their humanitarian tragedy, undermines educational and agricultural activities and livelihoods. It also puts their lives at risk.
