Militants burnt down five vacant houses in a village in Manipur's Imphal West district. Following the incident, security forces drove away the militants. Police said on Monday that the militants had on Sunday opened indiscriminate fire from the hilly areas towards the valley areas of Kotruk and Kadangband. Militants attacked with rockets and grenades
Two people, including one from the district, were killed and nine others were injured in the attack by militants on Sunday. Security forces repelled the militants on Sunday night. Manipur Police claimed that the militants used rocket-propelled grenades and drones in the attack. The Manipur government has ordered the state police to conduct a search operation in areas adjoining Imphal West district.
Central forces should be withdrawn from the state: BJP MLA
The Home Commissioner has asked the Director General of Police to take steps to arrest those involved in the attack and increase surveillance in the area. Meanwhile, state BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh said that despite the presence of about 60 thousand central forces in Manipur, peace is not coming, so the central forces should be withdrawn from the state. In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Imo Singh said that state security personnel should be allowed to take charge.
Emo Singh also called upon the central government to take strict action against those militant and insurgent groups that have violated the rules of the Suspension of Operations (SOO) agreement. He urged Shah to cancel the SOO agreement with these groups.
