Story

It is contained in Sanatan scriptures that seeing the complexion of Shani Dev, Sun God refused to accept him. At that time, Mother Chhaya cursed Sun God to suffer from leprosy. Hearing this, Sun God became angry. After this, Sun God reduced the place where Shani Dev and Mother Chhaya stayed to ashes (burned it with fire). Later, Yam Dev calmed Sun God's anger. Also, he requested Sun God to turn his anger into affection for Mother Chhaya. Then Sun God forgave Mother Chhaya.

After this, Surya Dev went to meet his son Shani Dev. It is said that both of them met on the date of transit of Surya Dev in Capricorn. In simple words, Surya Dev went to meet his son Shani Dev on Makar Sankranti. At that time, when there was nothing at home, Shani Dev offered sesame seeds to his father Surya Dev. Hence, sesame seeds are offered to Surya Dev on Makar Sankranti . From this day onwards, the relationship between father and son i.e. Surya Dev and Shani Dev became sweet.
