The Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest and most sacred rituals of Hinduism. It takes place every twelve years. Crores of devotees have gathered in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh to participate in this auspicious event (Mahakumbh 2025) . Pilgrims get an opportunity to purify themselves spiritually by bathing at the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers meet.
There are many things that are making its history even more rich, one of them is the mysterious world of wandering sages, so let us know about these saints in detail.
Who are the wandering sadhus?
According to mythology, Jangam Sadhus originated from the thigh of Lord Shiva, which is evident from their name. It is said that when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were getting married, Mahadev expressed his wish to give Dakshina to Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma, which was not accepted by both the Gods.
Because of this, Lord Shankar cut his thigh and gave birth to Jangam Sadhus (Jangam Sadhus Lifestyle) . Then these sadhus got Bholenath married and accepted his entire dakshina.
They earn their livelihood by taking donations
Jangam Sadhus (Jangam Sadhus Mysterious World) are worshippers of Lord Shiva . They accept donations only from sadhus, for which they go to Akharas and narrate Shiva Katha, music etc. to sadhus and saints. Along with this, these people earn their living from donations. It is said that not everyone can become a Jangam Sadhu, only their sons have this right.
It is said that one member from each generation becomes a sadhu. This ensures that the influence of these sadhus remains forever.
