There are many such stories in the Ramayana book, which not only increase a person's knowledge but also create curiosity. Today we are going to tell you one such story related to Laxman and his wife Urmila (Lakshman-Urmila Story), the main character of Ramayana, according to which, Laxman ji spent 14 years of exile awake, while Urmila slept for 14 years. Let's know the reason for this.
This is the story
According to the Ramayana tale, during the exile, Lakshman's wife Urmila also wanted to go with him. But Lakshman told her that she was needed more in Ayodhya, if she also went then who would take care of the mothers. Once during the exile, Lakshman worshipped the goddess of sleep, i.e. Nidra Devi and asked for a boon from her that he would not sleep for 14 years.
But the Goddess of Sleep put a condition before him that someone else will have to sleep for his share. Then Lakshman Ji requested to give his share of sleep to his wife Urmila. Therefore, due to the boon of Goddess of Sleep, Urmila slept for 14 years and Lakshman Ji remained awake. Another character of Ramayana, Kumbhakarna, also got the boon of sleeping from Brahma Ji by mistake.
Fulfilled the duties of a wife
According to the story of Ramayana, Urmila ji did not shed a single tear for 14 years because Lakshman ji had taken a promise from her not to do so. Because if she would be sad as a bride, then other people would also become sad after seeing her.
It is also said that when Lakshman ji returned to Ayodhya after completing his exile, Urmila could not recognize him. The reason for this is said to be that she had been sleeping for 14 years and had not seen Lakshman ji for so long.
