Story of Karwa Chauth fast

According to the mythological tale (Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha), there was a Brahmin named Dwija. He had seven sons and a daughter named Veeravati. Once Veeravati observed the Karwa Chauth fast at her maternal home. She did not consume food and water during the fast, due to which Veeravati became very upset. In such a situation, her brothers lit a lantern on the Banyan tree outside the village and told their sister that the moon has come out and asked her to offer Arghya.
