Jitiya Vrat Story (Jitiya Vrat 2024 Katha In Hindi)

According to mythology, once upon a time, the prince of Gandharvas, Jimutavahana, was known for his philanthropy and valour. Once Jimutavahana's father made him the king and went to the forest for penance. But he did not like the kingdom, due to which he handed over the responsibility of the kingdom to his brothers and went to serve his father, where he got married to a girl named Malayavati.

One day while travelling he met an old woman who belonged to the Naga clan. She was very sad and scared. Seeing her condition Jimutvahana asked about her condition, to which the old woman said that the Nagas had promised the King of Birds Garuda that they would give her a snake every day as food. The woman told him while crying that she had a son named Shankhachud. Today she had to go to the King of Birds Garuda as food.

As Jimutavahana saw the condition of the old woman, he assured her that he would save her son's life. True to his word, Jimutavahana went to the bird king Garuda and Garuda took him away in his claws. During that time, he heard Jimutavahana's groaning and he stopped on a mountain, where Jimutavahana told him the whole incident.

Then the king of birds was stunned to see his courage and charity and was pleased and gave life to Jimutvahan. He also assured that he will not eat any snake now. Since then, there is a tradition of worshipping Jimutvahan for the safety and progress of children, which people today also know as Jitiya Vrat. It is said that without this story, Jitiya Vrat   (Jivitputrika Parv Ke Niyam) is incomplete, hence it must be recited.
