Jallikattu competition has started in Avaniyapuram in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. 1,100 bulls and 900 bull-keepers will participate in this event, in which strict rules and safety measures will be implemented. Twelve bull owners were among the 42 people injured during the event at Palamedu. Jallikattu is organised every year in Palamedu during the Pongal (harvest) festival. Jallikattu was organised at Avaniyapuram in the district during this period too and the 'Grand Finale' was held at Alanganallur. P Prabhakaran of Madurai tamed 14 bulls and was declared the best animal trainer and was given the 'Chief Minister's Car' as the first prize.
