ICC Issues Arrest: International Criminal Court (ICC) judges have issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, as well as a Hamas military commander. A pre-trial chamber had rejected Israel's challenges to the court's jurisdiction and issued warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Galant, a statement said. A warrant has also been issued for Mohammed Zaif, although the Israeli military has said he was killed in an airstrike in Gaza in July. But Hamas has not yet confirmed this.
It found there were "reasonable grounds" to believe the three men bore "criminal responsibility" for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war between Israel and Hamas. Both Israel and Hamas have rejected the allegations.
On what basis was the arrest made?
Speaking on the basis of prosecuting Israeli leaders, the International Criminal Court said that the court has found reasonable grounds to believe that Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav want to lead Gaza towards starvation. Therefore, the responsibility for this is put on them.
