New Delhi: The ongoing diplomatic dispute between India and Canada over the Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case is getting deeper. India has taken very seriously the name of India's Home Minister Amit Shah taken by Canada's Deputy Foreign Minister in a hearing of the Parliamentary Committee on this matter recently.

In this case, a day earlier, the representative of the Indian High Commission in Canada was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs and India's deep anger was conveyed. The Indian Foreign Ministry has also handed over a diplomatic note expressing strong protest against the above statement of Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison. India has once again reiterated that the current Trudeau government is working under a political agenda and the steps it is taking will have a deep impact on the relations between the two countries.

India expressed strong protest

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said here, 'We had summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission yesterday. A diplomatic note dated October 29, 2024 has been handed over to him. We have told that we strongly protest the baseless and unfounded references made by Canadian Deputy and Foreign Minister David Morrison about the Union Home Minister of India before a committee.'

He said that Canadian officials deliberately provide baseless information to the international media to defame India and influence other countries. Such irresponsible actions will have serious consequences on bilateral relations.

High Commission officials are being spied upon: India

Jaiswal said, 'Officials of the Indian High Commission in Canada are being spied upon. This information has been given to the Indian officials by the Canadian government itself. Their phones are being tapped. Official protest has been lodged with the Canadian government regarding this, saying that this is a blatant violation of diplomatic agreements.'

He said that this is a method of intimidation and harassment by the Canadian government, which it is trying to hide technically. Our diplomats are already working in a very extreme and violent environment. This step of the Canadian government has made the situation worse.

Canada added fuel to the fire

In recent times, officials and agencies of the Canadian government have added fuel to the fire of the ever-worsening relations between Canada and India. Apart from Deputy Foreign Minister Morrison, the Canadian intelligence agency has also put India on the list of enemy countries in a recent report. The agency has accused India of using cyber technology to monitor Khalistani separatists living in Canada.

On this, Jaiswal said, 'This seems to be another strategy of Canada to attack India. Senior Canadian officials are openly admitting that they are trying to create global opinion against India, while continuous allegations are being made against India without any evidence.'

Canada did not provide any evidence: India

Jaiswal reiterated that India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had met senior Canadian officials in Singapore, but till now not even a shred of evidence has been given to India by Canada. India has also taken offence to the decision of the Canadian government to cancel Diwali celebrations.

According to Jaiswal, 'It is very unfortunate that the current environment in Canada has reached this level of extremism and intolerance.' The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs has also expressed concern about the safety of Indian students and working professionals living in Canada.
