New Delhi. India defense export India's defense sector has now established its dominance in the world. The country is now rapidly moving ahead in the export of weapons. India is now focusing more on exports than imports. The country has sold weapons worth more than Rs 21 thousand crore to other countries in the year 2023-24.
The special thing is that till a few years ago, India used to buy weapons in large quantities from America and France, but now India is exporting defence material to both these countries, which is a big thing.
Armenia is the biggest buyer
On the other hand, Armenia has emerged as the biggest buyer. Armenia has purchased weapons from India on a large scale since the conflict with Azerbaijan. Armenia has purchased 'ready-made' weapon systems such as Akash air defense missile system, Pinaka multi-launch rocket system and 155 mm artillery guns from India.
These weapons are in the highest demand
India's government and private sector companies are exporting large quantities of weapons, ammunition and fuses to about 100 countries. This includes...
BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile
dornier-228 aircraft
Artillery Gun
Radar
Akash Missile
Pinaka Rockets and Armoured Vehicles
Here are the top three buyers:
India is sourcing parts for aircraft and helicopters, including wings and other components. The Tata Boeing Aerospace venture in Hyderabad is making bodies and parts for Apache attack helicopters. France, in turn, is importing a lot of software and electronic components.
The US, France and Armenia are the top three buyers of Indian defence exports.
Armenia, on its part, has struck several deals with India over the past four years to import a variety of ammunition and artillery shells along with 'finished products' such as missiles, artillery guns, rocket systems, weapon-locating radars, bullet-proof vests and night-vision equipment. Some of these deals were also struck during Armenia's confrontation with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, which has close ties with Turkey and Pakistan.
Armenia became the first customer of 'Aakash'
Armenia has become the first foreign customer for the indigenously developed Akash air defence missile, which has an interception range of 25 km, while Brazil has also shown interest.
Earlier, India had signed a deal worth more than 3100 crores (375 million dollars) for the export of three BrahMos anti-ship coastal missile batteries to the Philippines in January 2022. Now other ASEAN countries as well as some Gulf countries are also showing interest in acquiring precision-strike missiles co-developed by India with Russia.
