New Delhi. India has become the third largest domestic aviation market in the world. Ten years ago, India was at the fifth position with about 80 lakh seats. Indonesia was at the fourth position and Brazil at the third position. America and China were at the first and second positions respectively.

The world's third largest domestic aviation market 

According to OAG data, India has reached the third position with an airline capacity of 15.6 million seats in April 2024. India is the fastest growing market among the five domestic markets. Talking about the increase in seat capacity between 2014 and 2024, India was at the forefront with 6.9 percent. 

Indigo's market share increased 

China was very close behind with annual growth of 6.3 percent, while the US and Indonesia had much lower growth rates during this period. According to the report, IndiGo has increased its market share from 32 percent in 2014 to 62 percent in 2024 during the last ten years.

According to the government, the number of airports in the country has increased from 74 to 157 in the last 10 years. In 2023, more than 91 lakh passengers availed the facility of Digi Yatra and more than 35 lakh users downloaded the app.
