The third phase of trial against seven accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case began in a special court on Monday. These accused were absconding and were caught at different times. In two phases of the trial, the court has convicted 106 people. This includes Yakub Memon, who was hanged in July 2015.

In this case, gangster Abu Salem was extradited from Portugal in 2005 and sentenced to life imprisonment. On March 12, 1993, 12 bomb blasts took place in different parts of Mumbai, killing 257 people and injuring more than 700. It was one of the world's deadliest terrorist attacks of that time.
Seven people are facing trial
The trial began with the recording of the testimony of two witnesses before special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act judge VD Kedar. Seven people are facing trial, including Farooq Mansuri alias Farooq Takla, Ahmed Lambu, Munaf Halari, Abu Bakar, Sohaib Qureshi, Saeed Qureshi and Yusuf Batka. The prosecution may examine 41 new witnesses during this phase of the trial. According to an official, 26 accused in the case are still absconding.
