Cases of HMPV are now being reported in the country. Its cases have been reported in many states including Gujarat, Maharashtra. Now a case of HMPV has been found in the North-East state of Assam. Here a 10-month-old child has been found to be infected with 'Human Metapneumovirus' (HMPV), which is the first such case in Assam this season. Officials gave information about this case on Saturday. Officials said that the child is being treated at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and now his condition is stable.

HMPV infection was confirmed

AMCH superintendent Dr Dhrubajyoti Bhuiyan said the child was admitted to the government hospital four days ago with cold-related symptoms. "The HMPV infection was confirmed yesterday after receiving test results from ICMR-RMRC, Lahaul," the hospital superintendent said. Dhrubajyoti Bhuiyan said samples are routinely sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research for testing in influenza and flu-related cases. "It was a routine check-up during which the HMPV infection was detected. The child's condition is stable now. It is a common virus and there is nothing to worry about," he said.

Cases were also found in 2014

"Since 2014, we have detected 110 cases of HMPV in Dibrugarh district. This is the first case this season. It is detected every year and is nothing new. We received the sample from AMCH and it has been confirmed as HMPV," said Dr Biswajit Borkakoty, senior scientist at ICMR's Regional Medical Research Centre in Lahowal (Dibrugarh).
